“We believe that there are countless innocent souls, or Trauma Toys, trapped in Hell.
It is our mission to rescue these souls from their torture and give them a second chance at life! They might look a little different, but they are still worthy of our love and acceptance.”
“With every adopted Trauma Toy, a certificate of adoption comes along with them.
This is Adoption Oath:”
“I have adopted a toy that may seem wrong.
Their torture and pain has been held far too long.
And even with their “Trauma” and strangeness in mind,
I´ve learned to accept and to love all their kind”
WORDS BY THE AUTHOR / My name is Ernesto Stewart, or Honeylambs on the internet. I’m a 23 year old artist living in California at the moment. I was born in Lima, Peru, and moved to Florida when I was 3-ish and then to California around 2 years ago.
Growing up as a shy, closeted gay boy in a hispanic household, I really struggled with the concept of religion. I went to two private, catholic schools so it kinda makes sense I started making stuffed animals (lol) when I dropped out of college. I had an idea of a two headed teddy bear in my head for the longest and now that I had all the free time, I just poured all my energy into that. I wanted to make an object that was a symbol of hope.
My project centers around the idea of acceptance. I also am really interested in using the internet as a stage, kinda focusing on my “online presence” as the medium. I grew up fully immersed in the internet, it was my biggest escape besides art so I am really interested in the way the internet allows you to bend and skew what is real and what is fake. So I decided to open up the first toy store from Hell 🙂
Honeylambs is a demon who rescues people from Hell and gives their souls a second chance at life on Earth. In this world, the souls of people are represented as their favorite childhood toy. When a person dies and goes to heaven, their body and soul separate. But when a person dies and goes to Hell, their body and soul are stuck together. In Hell, the person is afflicted with never-ending torture, causing their soul (or their “toy”) to become disfigured and mutated. Honeylambs’s mission is to find these people and save their souls, which led him to start his Orphanage.
Honeylambs is a soft rebellion. My “metamorphosis” was becoming the strongest version of the demon they said I was, destroying its original meaning and giving it my own power. My main goal with this project is to give young kids and teens an object that makes them feel less alone. A lot of us feel shunned, unaccepted and like outcasts; these toys come from a similar background and by showing them affection, we prove that we are also deserving. This project is about wanting someone to know that someone else in the world once felt the way you are feeling and you’re not alone, that you can get through it, and that you are loved.
